This home was established in 2009 to care for 10 girls who had been abandoned in a refugee camp, with HON facilitating sponsorship for their day-to-day needs and education. In April 2014, HON arranged for the girls to be moved from their local village school to a school offering better educational opportunities and hostel accommodation. HON continues to provide funds for this group of girls.
HON has provided funding for this home since 2005. The girls in this home are either orphaned or come from families who are unable to care for them due to poverty or death of a parent. There are currently 15 girls in residential care as well as 30 children in a tutoring program, 1 girl on scholarship in a school hostel and 6 young people in a university support program.
Residential Care Project 1

Residential care program 1*
This home was established in 2005 post-tsunami to provide care for girls who had lost one or both parents. There are currently 15 girls in this home whose daily needs are funded by HON. A community education program is run out of this home to support disadvantaged children in the local villiage, which is also funded by HON.
Residential care program 2*
HON began supporting this home of 8 girls in 2012. Some of the girls in this home have been placed here by the Department of Probation (similar to the Department of Family and Community Services). Others have lost one or both parents.
Pre-school and feeding program*
This pre-school caters to approximately 60 children of shanty-dwellers in the vicinity. The children are given two meals as part of the program. The aim of the program is to encourage learning and prepare children and families for the discipline of attending school daily, as they come from backgrounds in which this is not the norm. It also ensures that young children are in a safe environment during the day so that their parents can earn a daily wage.
The Christmas Gift Project
This project began 20 years ago in 1994 with 20 gifts for children in 1 orphanage in Sri Lanka. Today, Help Orphans Now continues to provide gifts at Christmas to nearly 3500 children in orphanages around the country, irrespective of race or religion.
