Childrens' feeding program

HON commenced support for a program for children from local destitute homes, run by Sister Agnes on the outskirts of Colombo. The convent provides meals and supervision before and after school, keeping the children off the streets.

Jeevananda Home

The construction of this home was completed in November 2008. Mr. & Mrs. Pitt, representing the Sydney Rotary Clubs that completely funded this project, visited the home for an official opening ceremony in April 2009.

Packing Day for Gift Program

Calling for volunteers and supporters to prepare gifts for children in Sri Lanka as part of the Gift Project. There are many ways you can help:
  • Come to the Packing Day to help wrap and pack gifts -on 11 October between 9 am and 5 pm at Carlingford High School Hall, North Rocks Road, in North Rocks Sydney;

October 2007 - Construction of Jeevananda Home begins

The foundations were laid for this building in early October 2007, with a small ceremony to mark the occasion. The Rotary Club of Batticaloa is supervising the construction project on behalf of the Sydney-based Rotary Clubs funding this project.

April 2007 - Update on Christmas gift programme

The annual Christmas Gift Project for 2006 delivered over 4000 Christmas gifts to children in refugee camps and orphanages. The resumption of armed conflict in the North and East of the country meant that delivery of gifts was delayed in some areas. The National YMCA in Sri Lanka delivered the last of the gifts in April 2007.

April 2007 - Opening of new Girls' Home

The new Home in Akkarapattu was opened on 22nd April 2007, to coincide with a visit by representatives of the Ragala Aid Project that is funding construction. HON has released funds for the outfitting of the establishment to accommodate 30 girls, and will commence sponsorship once the girls are in residence in May 2007.

September 2006

This month we have started preparing the Christmas 2006 gifts which we plan to ship to Sri Lanka in October of this year. Each gift is personalised by name for each child and consists of a set of new summer clothing, underwear, stationery, toiletries, other age appropriate items such as toys, hair ornaments, hats etc and a lolly bag.


Christmas Gifts 2005

Last year we sent over 4000 gifts to orphaned or destitute children at orphanages run by many different faiths around and to children directly affected by the tsunami living with relatives and friends. The gifts were distributed by the National YMCA of Sri Lanka and trauma counselling groups. We have had many reports of the joy the children have felt in receiving these gifts.

January 2006 - New home opened in Galle

A new Home for orphaned children was opened in Galle (in the south). There are currently 12 children resident, with a possible three more to join shortly. The home is in operation and HON will continue to fund and administer the Home through our local support network, HON (Sri Lanka).
