At present our focus is on Phase 1—re-building Homes damaged by the tsunami.

You may get involved in one of the following ways:

  • Make a donation. Your donation will fund the projects prioritised by the HON Board based on independent information, site visits by agents acting on HON’s behalf and project proposals submitted by potential recipients. Local expertise and relationships are being forged to facilitate progress with the building phase and to keep HON informed on progress.
  • Sponsor or Partner the reconstruction of a particular Home. The approximate cost to construct a Home to house 35 children is $50,000. Raise funds through your community and form a direct linkage with a particular Home through your sponsorship, either in full or part.
  • Sponsor the fit-out of a Home. Your donations will fund furniture, bedding, linen, etc.
  • Be part of the annual Gift Project. Participate in the Sri Lanka Orphanages Project.

Phase 2 will direct attention to empowering orphans by providing for their physical, educational and emotional needs.

When Phase 2 commences, the following avenues for involvement are envisaged:

  • Sponsor a child—pledge a regular amount of money to meet the needs of orphan children
  • Donate education equipment—computers, software etc
  • Create school projects—Australian children will be given an opportunity to interact with the Sri Lanka children (in Homes) to exchange ideas and establish links mutually beneficial to both groups
  • Sponsor educational projects i.e provide computers, contribute towards literacy programmes
  • Provide for needs such as school books and uniforms
  • Sponsor vocational training programmes
